It gives me the greatest pleasure to tell you that we finished the second platform. The two installations have taken far longer than expected because of the severe flooding and bank erosion we have experienced over the last two or three months. You will remember that we came over for another plank – this was so that we could modify the design to include two extra anchor points further back into the bank to combat this problem. After consulting with several local anglers we decided not to fit the handrails so instead we used the rail posts as the extra anchors and improvised the side kick rails by making these from a couple of pieces of scrap that you supplied. We also set the whole platform a bit further back into the bank than the old wooden one. All work was done manually by volunteers and it took approx. 168 man-hours to complete both installations with another 40 hours being spent so far on upgrading the access paths to them. Contractors will be top-dressing the paths in the next few weeks.
I would like to thank you and your staff on behalf of Scole Nature Trails Trust for all your help over the last few months and put on record what a great product this is. We look forward to working with you again in the very near future when the canoe launch platform finally gets the go-ahead.
