To ensure delivery of these rafts before the beginning of the March 2024 breeding season we need to commence manufacture by the 31st October 2023. Orders received after this date may not be shipped until after the breeding season has started.
We have relaunched our Tern Raft with some great new design changes.
It now consists of two 1.2m x 1.2m x 200mm polystyrene floatation layers encapsulated in tough 6mm and 9mm thick recycled plastic sheet with a gravel tray on the top. The unit is screwed together with nylon fixing plugs to allow movement due to thermal expansion.
These two units are connected together in situ to make a 1.2m x 2.4m raft. The design is modular so multiple units can be joined together, contact us for more details.
The raft is delivered on a wooden pallet. The two sections are stacked on top of one another to reduce the size of the pallet and most importantly to allow it to be unloaded using the tail lift of a standard delivery vehicle. Unloading the old style rafts wa always a problem for most customers since they are generally delivered to sites without forklifts amd are awkward to handball off the side of a delivery truck.
The rafts have a 4cm x 1m x 1m grid in each tray to help hold the gravel in place and stop it from sliding about in choppy conditions. This is supplied unattached so it can be removed at the end of the season, but can be screwed in if you prefer.
To prevent attacks by mink, 400mm tall sides made of 4mm thick clear polycarbonate have been added. These also allow the chicks to still be seen.
This item is made up against order with a lead time of 6 weeks.
Gravel is not supplied with the raft, we estimate that you will need about 300kg per raft (equivalent to 12 standard sacks).
